Yang paling khas dari tumbuhan ini adalah buahnya. Ketika telah matang, buah tumbuhan ini akan meledak dengan daya ledak yang dapat melukai manusia atau hewan yang ada di dekatnya.
7. Rumput Menari

Rumput Menari (Desmodium Gyrans) dikenal pula sebagai tanaman semapur. Sebab, gerakan daun tumbuhan ini seperti tangan yang mengirimkan sandi-sandi semapur. Tumbuhan yang sangat mudah tumbuh ini akan tampak seperti menari-nari ketika dalam keadaan kering atau sinar matahari berlimpah.
8. Raflesia Arnoldii

Raflesia Arnoldii merupakan bunga terbesar di dunia. Diameter bunga bisa mencapai 1 meter, dengan berat sekitar 8 hingga 12 kilogram. Tumbuhan ini tidak berakar, tidak bertangkai, dan tidak berdaun. Raflesia Arnoldii mengeluarkan bau busuk yang bermanfaat menarik serangga untuk membuahi. Bunga ini hanya berumur sekitar 5 hingga 7 hari, kemudian layu dan segera mati.

Bunga Jericho (Selaginella Lepidophylla) merupakan tumbuhan gurun yang banyak tumbuh di Gurun Chihuahua, Meksiko. Tumbuhan ini dikenal memiliki daya tahan yang luar biasa menghadapi kekeringan. Pada musim kering, tumbuhan ini mengerutkan batangnya, menggulung menjadi seperti bola. Ketika mendapatkan air, gulungan batang tersebut akan melepaskan diri dan berbentuk normal kembali.

Sejarah Letusan Gunung Galunggung yang Mendunia

BANDUNG- Gunung Galunggung, Tasikmalaya-Garut, Jawa Barat, terakhir kali meletus pada 5 April 1982 hingga 8 Januari 1983. Saat itu menghasilkan cendawan tinggi berwarna hitam. Ketinggiannya diperkirakan mencapai ketinggian 10 kilometer.
Kepala Ikatan Ahli Geologi Indonesia (IAGI) Jabar, A Djumarma Wirakusumah, menuturkan letusan Gunung Galunggung menyebabkan pesawat terbang British Airways melakukan pendaratan darurat di Jakarta. Hal tersebut dilakukan karena salah satu mesin jetnya ada yang mati akibat kemasukan abu vulkanik.
“Gunung Galunggung (letusannya) juga mendunia, karena mengganggu pesawat kan,” kata Djumarma saat ditemui di sela Seminar Geologi, di Bandung, Jawa Barat, Selasa (14/2/2012).
Waktu Gunung Galunggung meletus pada 1982, kenang Djumarma, dirinya baru saja menjadi PNS sebagai staf Badan Geologi Kementerian Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral (ESDM).
Saat itu banyak PNS yang langsung diterjunkan untuk mengatasi letusan Gunung Galunggung. Letusan Gunung Galunggung pada 1982 itu memang termasuk besar dan lama, yakni hingga 9 bulan.
Letusannya menghancurkan kubah lava yang terbentuk sejak terakhir kali meletus pada 1918. Akibat letusan, muncullah air yang membentuk danau. Adanya danau ini membuat efek bahaya letusan tersendiri.
Jika Gunung Galunggung meletus, air danau yang terjadi pada 1956 lalu memiliki air 7,8 juta ton meter kubik itu akan mendidih karena dipanaskan lahar yang berada di bawahnya. Diperkirakan, lahar yang berada di sekitar danau mencapai 8,9 juta ton meter kubik akan panas.
Berdasarkan pengalaman letusan di Gunung Kelud pada 1919 yang menewaskan 3.000 orang. Gunung Kelud memiliki danau yang airnya menjadi mendidih karena material mengakibatkan letusan.
Sehingga pascaletusan 1982, mulai dilakukan proses pengurangan air danau dengan dibuatnya terowongan air yang membuang air danau ke Sungai Cikunir.
Lanjut Djumarma, pihaknya sudah melakukan simulasi berdasarkan perkampungan di sana, volume dihitung, kecepatan gerak, kemiringn lereng, semua berkaitan dengan daya jangkau lahar jika terjadi letusan.
Kesimpulannya, jika volume air di danau Gunung Galunggung 7,1 juta ton meter kubik, maka jarak lahar panas akan menjangkau 5,5 kilometer. Jika volume air 2,9 juta ton meter kubik jangkauan mencapai 2,7 kilometer, dan jika volumenya kurang dari 1 juta ton meter kubik, ternyata jangkauan letusan hanya sampai 1,9 kilometer.
“Menurut data 1996, perkampungan terdekat dengan Gunung Galunggung jaraknya 2,1 kilometer. Tetapi sekarang volume air pasti berbeda dengan dulu. Endapan materialnya bisa lebih besar,” ungkapnya.
Namun, belum diketahui tahapan status yang terjadi saat letusan 1982. Pasalnya, waktu itu penghitungan dilakukan secara manual. Berbeda dengan saat ini yang memiliki alat-alat canggih untuk mengukur aktivitas gunung berapi.
Kronologi letusan dilakukan berdasarkan pantauan warga khususnya aparat desa yang menyampaikan laporan ke Badan Geologi. Saat itu laporan terjadinya gejala letusan Gunung Galunggung mulai terjadi sejak Oktober 1981 hingga Januari 1982.
Dalam empat bulan sebelum ledakan saat itu, sudah terjadi gempa. Pada April 1982 suasana di Cipanas (puncak) sudah terjadi beberapa kali getaran. Jalanan menuju puncak juga tampak bekas tembakan-tembakan vulkanik yang berceceran. Sedangkan suasana di sekitar gunung juga terasa panas.
“Dua hari sebelum meletus, ada petugas kami yang mengontrol gunung. Ternyata di sana sudah muncul asap. Maka esoknya (5 April), meletus,” tuturnya.
Proses terjadinya Gunung Galunggung sebenarnya terjadi sejak 4.000 tahun lalu. Pembentukan gunung api tersebut berawal dari letusan besar dari Gunung Guntur (kini namanya Galunggung).
Djumarma menuturkan, pihaknya telah melakukan pemetaan geologi gunung api Galunggung dengan sumber dari material Gunung Galunggung seperti bebatuan akibat letusan 1981-1982. Dari material tersebut, pihaknya berhasil menemukan urutan pembentukan Gunung Galunggung.
“Dulunya Gunung Galunggung adalah Gunung Gede yang puncaknya Kawah Guntur. Ini beda dengan Gunung Gede di Garut ya,” tuturnya.
Kawah Guntur merupakan tempat magma. Di kawah tersebutlah berlangsung pembentukan lapa atau lahar Galunggung, termasuk pembentukan awan panas jika nantinya meletus.

Bukit Barisan, Tulang Belakang Sumatera

KOMPAS.com — Berderet memanjang dari Lampung sampai Aceh, Bukit Barisan seolah menjadi tulang punggung Sumatera dan membagi pulau menjadi dua. Sisi pantai timur yang lebih luas dan landai serta sisi pantai barat yang sempit dan terjal.

Disebut Bukit Barisan barangkali karena jejeran pegunungannya sambung-menyambung, memanjang sejajar Pulau Sumatera sepanjang lebih kurang 1.650 km. Adapun disebut ”bukit” dan bukan ”gunung” karena dalam terminologi Melayu lama kedua nama ini sebenarnya identik.

John Crawfurd dalam bukunya, A Descriptive Dictionary of the Indian Islands and Adjacent Countries (1856), menyebutkan, bukit dalam bahasa Melayu sama artinya dengan gunung dalam bahasa Jawa. Kedua istilah ini sering digunakan untuk menunjukkan nama tempat yang tinggi.

Sebagai tulang punggung Sumatera, Bukit Barisan berperan penting sebagai sumber air dari semua sungai besar di pulau ini. Sungai-sungai yang bermuara di pantai barat (Samudra Hindia), seperti Alas dan Batangtoru, ataupun yang bermuara di pantai timur (Selat Malaka), seperti Indragiri, Batanghari, dan Musi, berhulu di Bukit Barisan.

Sejak tahun 1940-an, geolog Belanda, Van Bemmelen, mulai meneliti keunikan bentang alam di kawasan ini. Dia kemudian menuliskan hasil pengamatannya dalam bukunya, The Geology of Indonesia, yang diterbitkan tahun 1949. Setelah itu banyak peneliti asing dan Indonesia yang menyusuri Bukit Barisan untuk menelisiknya, salah satunya geolog dari Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (LIPI), JF Katili, yang meneliti kawasan ini sekitar tahun 1960-an.

Katili menemukan banyak sedimen fosil kerang laut di sepanjang zona Bukit Barisan. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa pegunungan ini tumbuh dari dasar laut akibat penunjaman Lempeng (Samudra) Hindia-Australia ke bawah Pulau Sumatera yang berada di Lempeng (Benua) Eurasia.

Ahli gempa dari LIPI, Danny Hilman, mengatakan, penunjaman ini menjadi biang terjadinya gempa di sepanjang zona penunjaman (subduksi). Sampai kedalaman 40 kilometer di zona penunjaman, batas kedua lempeng ini terekat erat. Dorongan tiada henti dari Lempeng Hindia-Australia menumpuk energi potensial regangan pada bidang kontak yang merekat erat itu, dan suatu saat akan terlepas tiba-tiba sehingga menyebabkan gempa.

Di kedalaman antara 150 dan 200 kilometer, temperatur Bumi sangat panas sehingga batuan di sekitar zona kontak dua lempeng ini meleleh. Sesuai dengan sifat fluida, lelehan batuan panas ini naik ke atas membentuk kantung-kantung bubur batuan panas yang kita kenal sebagai kantung magma.

Pada akhirnya magma ini mendesak ke atas permukaan membentuk deretan kubah magma atau gunung api. Salah satu gunung api itu merupakan yang tertinggi di Nusantara, yaitu Gunung Kerinci di Jambi yang berketinggian sekitar 3.805 meter.

Saat ini gunung-gunung di Sumatera tidak seaktif gunung api di Jawa. Namun, beberapa gunung api di sepanjang zona ini pernah menyimpan riwayat mengerikan.

Misalnya, Gunung Api ”Raksasa” Toba atau Toba Supervolcano di Sumatera Utara yang letusannya sekitar 74.000 tahun lalu nyaris memusnahkan manusia di muka Bumi. Letusan Maninjau di Sumatera Barat sekitar 60.000 tahun juga sangat dahsyat sehingga membentuk danau kaldera seluas 99,5 kilometer persegi.

Mendalami gua-gua di Pegunungan Mulle

Menyusuri Sungai Barito menuju desa terakhir yakni Desa Tumbang Topus, merupakan pengalaman tersendiri. Menggunakan perahu bermotor melewati jeram-jeram yang cukup membuat jantung berdegup cukup keras. Ada kalanya, kita harus turun dari perahu hanya motoris dan penunjuk arah yang menembus jeram menyusuri urat air.
Menyaksikan kehebatan mereka dalam melewati jeram-jeram berbahaya membuat saya kagum. Tidak hanya sekali dua kali saya harus menggunakan perahu menyusuri pedalaman Kalimantan, masing-masing memiliki kedahsyatannya sendiri.
Selama menyusuri ke arah hulu menuju Desa Tumbang Topus, kita harus bermalam di tengah perjalanan karena hari sudah gelap.
Desa Tumbang Topus adalah desa terakhir di Hulu Sungai Barito dan hanya terdiri dari beberapa rumah. Desa inilah yang merupakan satu-satunya desa untuk menuju Pegunungan Muller yang dikenal sangat keras dan bertebing curam.
Saya tidak akan banyak bercerita tentang kondisi di gunung dan tebing yang terjal, tapi gua-gua disana adalah cerita lain yang belum banyak diketahui.
Ada banyak gua yang potensial untuk ditelusuri, dua gua diyakini merupakan satu sistem sungai bawah tanah yang cukup lumayan untuk ditelusuri dan dieksplorasi.
Karena kondisi tim yang minim, pada waktu itu 2004 saya hanya menyelesaiakn beberapa kilometer dari sungai bawah tanah yang memiliki panjang dan keindahan cukup mengagumkan.
Gua-gua disana banyak yang dijaga karena memilik sarang walet yang bernilai jutaan. Kalau mengunjungi gua, kita harus didampingi penjaga gua karena banyak “jebakan” yang harus terlebih dulu dibersihkan.
Kondisi ini menjadikan kita harus selalu didampingi oleh “penunjuk jalan” selain untuk menunjukkan mulut gua yang kadang tersembunyi di hutan belantara, tapi juga untuk membantu menghindari jebakan.
Ada beberpa gua yang masing-masing memiliki keunikan sendiri, Gua terpanjang adalah Gua Puruk yang memiliki mulut gua tipe “collapse doline” dimana kedalamnya akan menemukan sungat bawah tanah.
Selain itu, ada gua yang memiliki lebar lorong sangat sempit yang hanya cukup dilewati dengan posisi badan miring dan kondisi yang berkelok-kelok.
Dari gua-gua inilah, banyak hidup beberapa jenis baru seperti kelompok kalacemeti dan udang-udangan gua yang banyak menghuni gua di daerah ini.
Meskipun masih sebagian kecil yang tereksplorasi dan terpetakan, namun potensi untuk di eksplorasi lebih lanjut gua-gua di Tumbang Topus ini masih sangat besar.

Raja Ampat adalah kepulauan di papua barat yang amat indah, keindahan kepulauan ini terkenal hingga ke seluruh dunia dengan keindahan pantai, laut, kehidupan bawah laut, iklim tropis dan dipadu keindahan pepohonan yang rimbun dan masih asri.

Sejumlah turis tampak asyik bersantap dan mengobrol santai sambil memandang lepas ke arah laut yang didominasi warna biru, hijau, dan putih. Warna-warna itu muncul karena pengaruh dari hamparan terumbu karang di dasar laut yang dangkal maupun dalam. Mereka sedang menikmati makan siang di Papua Diving Resort, perairan Irian Jaya Barat.

Teriknya matahari dan cerahnya udara justru membuat gemas para tamu untuk kembali menyelam dan menyelam. Cahaya matahari kerap menembus celah-celah gelombang laut sampai ke karang. Keelokan pemandangan dan biota lautnya memang membuat kesan mendalam bagi para wisatawan. Bagi pencinta wisata pesisir dan bawah air yang fanatik, Raja Ampat sangat dikenal bahkan dinilai terbaik di dunia untuk kualitas terumbu karangnya.

Banyak fotografer bawah laut internasional mengabadikan pesona laut Raja Ampat. Bahkan ada yang datang berulang kali dan membuat buku khusus tentang keindahan terumbu karang dan biota laut kawasan ini. Pertengahan 2006 lalu, tim khusus dari majalah petualangan ilmiah terkemuka dunia, National Geographic, membuat liputan di Raja Ampat yang akan menjadi laporan utama pada 2007.

Raja Ampat adalah pecahan Kabupaten Sorong, sejak 2003. Kabupaten berpenduduk 31.000 jiwa ini memiliki 610 pulau (hanya 35 pulau yang dihuni) dengan luas wilayah sekitar 46.000 km2, namun hanya 6.000 km2 berupa daratan, 40.000 km2 lagi lautan. Pulau-pulau yang belum terjamah dan lautnya yang masih asri membuat wisatawan langsung terpikat. Mereka seakan ingin menjelajahi seluruh perairan di “Kepala Burung” Pulau Papua.

Wilayah ini sempat menjadi incaran para pemburu ikan karang dengan cara mengebom dan menebar racun sianida. Namun, masih banyak penduduk yang berupaya melindungi kawasan itu sehingga kekayaan lautnya bisa diselamatkan. Terumbu karang di laut Raja Ampat dinilai terlengkap di dunia. Dari 537 jenis karang dunia, 75 persennya berada di perairan ini. Ditemukan pula 1.104 jenis ikan, 669 jenis moluska (hewan lunak), dan 537 jenis hewan karang. Luar biasa.

Bank Dunia bekerja sama dengan lembaga lingkungan global menetapkan Raja Ampat sebagai salah satu wilayah di Indonesia Timur yang mendapat bantuan Coral Reef Rehabilitation and Management Program (Coremap) II, sejak 2005. Di Raja Ampat, program ini mencakup 17 kampung dan melibatkan penduduk lokal. Nelayan juga dilatih membudidayakan ikan kerapu dan rumput laut.

Papua Diving, satu-satunya resor eksotis yang menawarkan wisata bawah laut di kawasan itu, didatangi turis-turis penggemar selam yang betah selama berhari-hari bahkan hingga sebulan penuh mengarungi lekuk-lekuk dasar laut. Mereka seakan tak ingin kembali ke negeri masing-masing karena sudah mendapatkan “pulau surga yang tak ada duanya di bumi ini”.

Pengelolanya tak gampang mempersiapkan tempat bagi wisatawan. Maximillian J Ammer, warga negara Belanda pemilik Papua Diving Resort yang juga pionir penggerak wisata laut kawasan ini, harus mati-matian menyiapkan berbagai fasilitas untuk menarik turis dari mancanegara. Sejak memulai usahanya delapan tahun lalu, banyak dana harus dikeluarkan. Namun, hasilnya juga memuaskan. Setiap tahun resor ini dikunjungi minimal 600 turis spesial yang menghabiskan waktu rata-rata dua pekan.

Penginapan sangat sederhana yang hanya berdinding serta beratap anyaman daun kelapa itu bertarif minimal 75 euro atau Rp 900.000 semalam. Jika ingin menyelam harus membayar 30 euro atau sekitar Rp 360.000 sekali menyelam pada satu lokasi tertentu. Kebanyakan wisatawan datang dari Eropa. Hanya beberapa wisatawan asal Indonesia yang menginap dan menyelam di sana.

“Turis menyelam hampir setiap hari karena lokasi penyelaman sangat luas dan beragam. Keindahan terumbu karangnya memang bervariasi sehingga banyak pilihan dan mengundang penasaran. Ada turis yang sudah berusia 80 tahun masih kuat menyelam,” tutur Max Ammer yang beristrikan perempuan Manado.

Tiga tahun lalu, Papua Diving membangun penginapan modern tak jauh dari lokasi pertama. Ternyata, penginapan yang dibangun dengan mengandalkan bahan bangunan lokal ini hampir selalu penuh dipesan. Padahal tarifnya mencapai 225 euro atau sekitar Rp 2,7 juta per malam. Di lokasi yang baru, dilengkapi peralatan modern, termasuk fasilitas telepon internasional dan internet.

Turis ke Raja Ampat hanya ingin ke Papua Diving di Pulau Mansuar karena fasilitas dan pelayannya sudah berstandar internasional, juga makanannya. Mereka mendarat di Bandara Domne Eduard Osok, Sorong, langsung menuju lokasi dengan kapal cepat berkapasitas sekitar 10 orang yang tarifnya Rp 3,2 juta sekali jalan. Perlu waktu sekitar 3-4 jam untuk mencapai Mansuar.

Seperti pulau lainnya, Mansuar tampak asri karena hutannya masih terjaga dan air lautnya pun bersih sehingga biota laut yang tidak jauh dari permukaan bisa terlihat jelas. Turis cukup berenang atau ber-snorkelling untuk melihat keindahan laut, sedangkan jika ingin mengamati langsung kecantikan biota laut di kedalaman, mereka harus menyelam.

Warga lokal dilibatkan dalam pembangunan dan pengelolaan resor, bahkan 90 dari 100 karyawannya adalah warga Papua. Penduduk juga memasok ikan, sayur-mayur, buah-buahan, dan lainnya. Salah satu paket wisatanya mengunjungi perkampungan untuk melihat tanaman dan hewan khas setempat, termasuk burung Cendrawasih. Banyak wisatawan yang menjadi donatur pembangunan gereja dan pendidikan anak-anak sekitar Man- suar.

Max Ammer mempunyai komitmen untuk meningkatkan ekonomi dan keterampilan warga setempat. Mereka ada yang dilatih berbahasa asing dan menggunakan peralatan selam. Wisatawan pun merasa aman di kala siang maupun malam saat menikmati terik dan tenggelamnya matahari maupun saat berenang dan menyelam di laut yang sangat dalam.

Selain kelautan dan perikanan, Raja Ampat memiliki kekayaan sumber daya alam, antara lain minyak bumi dan nikel. Di dasar lautnya juga banyak terdapat kapal-kapal karam bekas Perang Dunia II yang diperkirakan memuat “harta karun” bernilai tinggi. Namun, jika salah kelola, kegiatan eksploitasi semua itu dikhawatirkan mengancam kelestarian dan keindahan alam lautnya.

Pegunungan Jayawijaya

Pegunungan Jayawijaya adalah deretan pegunungan yang terbentang di tengah provinsi Papua Barat dan Papua (Indonesia) hingga Papua New Guinea di Pulau Irian. Ada 6 puncak di pegunungan Jayawijaya : Puncak Jaya (dahulu Puncak Carstenz Pyramide), Puncak Meren, Puncak Northwall, Puncak Ngga Pulu, Puncak Sudirman, dan Puncak Trikora. Puncak dengan salju abadi hanya ada di empat puncak pertama. Tapi sayang salju abadi ini mulai meleleh karena perubahan iklim global.
Dari antara 6 puncak di pegunungan ini, Puncak Jaya adalah puncak tertinggi dengan 4.884 meter di atas permukaan laut (mdpl). Bahkan puncak pegunungan Jayawijaya disebut sebagai salah satu dari tujuh puncak benua tersebut. Tapi tahukah kamu kalau yang disebut puncak benua itu dulunya dasar lautan? Buktinya berbagai fosil kerang laut ditemukan di daerah puncak gunung. Jadi yang bermimpi ke puncak-puncak pegungungan Jayawijaya bukan hanya para pendaki tapi juga peneliti geologi dunia.
Rupanya 60 juta tahun yang lalu Pulau Papua masih berada di dasar laut yang terbentuk oleh bebatuan sedimen. Singkat cerita dalam waktu berjuta-juta tahun terjadi berbagai aktivitas tektonik dan pengendapan yang menghasilkan daratan Papua yang masih menyatu dengan Australia. Lambat laun daratan ini terpecah-pecah dan menghasilkan pulau dan pegunungan di Papua seperti yang kita kenal sekarang.
Masih banyak rahasia bebatuan Jayawijaya yang belum tergali dan masih banyak yang belum pernah mendaki puncak tertinggi di Indonesia ini. Jadi kamu pilih yang mana? Jadi pendaki ulung atau peneliti bebatuan ternama? Dua-duanya bisa dilakukan di Pegunungan Jayawijaya.
